In Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in outer Dublin, there’s one tantalizing dream for the women who want to taste freedom: to win a pilgrimage to Lourdes, the sacred French town of miracles. With a little unexpected help, old friends Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), and Dolly (Agnes O’Casey), manage to win this opportunity of a lifetime. But before they leave on their trip, Chrissie (Laura Linney), who left town decades ago, returns unexpectedly and upends their plans. Despite her skepticism, and without being invited, Chrissie joins them on their journey. Along the way, old wounds are reopened, forcing the women to confront their pasts even as they travel in search of miracles.
